- Miras, Esendal'ın 1924-25 yıllarında Meslek gazetesinde tefrika edilmiş bir aile romanı. Gazete kapanınca yarım kalan roman yıllar sonra, ancak 1988'de kitap halinde çıkmıştı. Bu baskıda tefrika yeniden günümüz harflerine aktarıldı.Esendal'ın yaşamından izler taşıyan Miras'ta II. Meşrutiyet öncesi dönemde toplumsal, ekonomik, kültürel, ahlaki çöküşü ve çürüyüşü Silahtar Ali Paşa Konağı simgeler. Halit Ziya'nın Kırık Hayatlar ile Mai ve Siyah romanlarını andıran Miras, menfaat ilişkileri, aile kavgaları ve siyasi çatışmalarla yüklüdür. Atiye Hanım'ın Sarayköy'deki değirmenini satın almak için İstanbul'a gelen Asım bir yandan o sırada gizli bir dernek olan İttihat ve Terakki'yle ilişki kurmuş, bir yandan da Yüksekkaldırım, Kuruçeşme, Çiftecevizler ve Ayastefanos semtlerindeki aileler arasında bir dizi miras kavgası, kıskançlık ve entrika arasında kalmıştır.Konak boşaldıkça ne hazin bir hal alıyordu! Boş ve perdesiz kalan odalarda, örtüsüz minderlerden keskin bir küf kokusu intişar ediyor, boş dairelerinde hüzünengiz kış rüzgarları ötüyordu. Bir ağacın dalı büyüyüp bir pencereyi kırıyor, bir telde asılmış sallanan bir parça soba borusu bütün kış kaplamaya vurup duruyordu.Nihayet, boş kalan konakta cinler periler mekan tutmuşlardı. Taş odada ağlayan keçiler, tekir kediler; mabeyin aralığında yeşil sarıklı emirler; büyük harem sofasında cüceler göründüğü rivayet olunuyor ve büyük hanımın yıkandığı yerde gece mumlar yandığı temin olunuyordu. Bunlara o kadar inanılıyordu ki, konakta son kalan aile efradı -Şefik Bey, biraderi ve validesiyle bir iki ihtiyar dadıdan ve bacıdan ibaretti- geceleri odalarından çıkamıyorlardı.
