Şunu söylemek istiyorum: Ömer Seyfettin dilimizi Edebiyat-ı Cedide'nin, eski inşanın yapma bezeklerinden kurtarmıştı, ondan sonra gelenler, onun sanatını sevmeseler de, açtığı yoldan gittiler. Memduh Şevket Esendal bir adım daha attı, yazı dilimizi konuşma dilimize yaklaştırmak istedi. (Nurullah Ataç) İnsanlara bakmasını da biliyordu. Kahvelerde tavla oynayan kendi halinde gözükenleri, pansiyonlardaki ilgiye layık görülmeyen kişileri merak ediyordu.
