Modelim görüp işittiğim hakikatlerdir. Bu hakikatlere tesadüfümde ben de şüphe ettim. Fakat mihenge vurdum. Doğru buldum. Hayal ne kadar hayal olsa yine az çok hakikatten doğar. Dönemin sokak hayatının, caddelerinin, mimarisinin, eğlence aleminin ya da ev yaşamının yanı sıra, Hüseyin Rahmi şehrin kozmopolit, çok kültürlü dokusunu ve gündelik yaşama dair daha birçok ayrıntıyı da eserlerinde cömertçe bizimle paylaşır. Konuşma dilini edebiyatta en iyi temsil eden ve bu dilin renklerini metinlerine en ustaca yansıtan yazarlarımızdan olan Hüseyin Rahmi'nin bu üslup özelliğinin örneklerine, ilk romanı olan Şık'ta da sıklıkla rastlamak mümkündür.
