It chimes on the quarter and half hour and chimes five times for five o'clock, while it doesn't make a tick-tock sound. The clock is powered by one Size C battery. To keep the chimes on 24 hours a day, slide the switch to the "bell" position. It has good sound and comes in two tunes. However, some customers have complained about the clock's size, chimes every 15 minutes, and the package in which it was delivered.
