The 2nd edition of "Mastering Linux Shell Scripting" provides a practical guide to Linux command-line, Bash scripting, and Shell programming. The book has some filler content, and a bit more editing could have made it a 4-star book. It's a classic, easy-to-read, and useful for beginners in programming or as a refresher for experienced shell programmers. However, it's not recommended for a beginner shell programmer as the book uses terms and concepts that aren't explained until later chapters. Overall, the book is easy to follow, and the examples and the explanations are clear and short. While some previous knowledge of Linux commands is helpful, it's not necessary to follow along. However, there are errors in explaining the use of return in BASH functions.
